Restaurants

While we are certainly not professional food critics we have spent several years going to Aruba and have eaten at dozens of places over the years.  Below is a list of our recommendations.  Ratings were determined by us. You will notice we like French Onion soup so we have included our comments on where you might want to try it.  Feel free to give us your opinions and we will modify this site based on our guests suggestions.  Or check out the Aruba Restaurants Website for more reviews.

5 star El Gaucho's Argentine Grill- By far, our favorite steak house on the island. Argentine steaks are grass fed beef and varies from our well known Black Angus. Steaks are cooked to perfection and served with a choice of several sides along with some awesome steak sauce, vinegar onions and garlic sauce. They also serve unlimited garlic bread that is great! They have guitar players that come around to the tables and play music. We make sure to make it there every year at least once.  It tends to be cool though so take a sweater. Reservations needed. Located in downtown Oranjestad.

Argentine Steak House
5 star Ruth's Chris- obviously an excellent steak house. We've tried their filets and tuna (with spicey red pepper seasoning). French Onion soup was great. Garlic Mashed Potatoes are great.  Located at the Mariott in the high rise area. Total cost for four w/ bottle of wine and beers $311.00.  Reservations Needed. Steak House
5 star Chef's Table- We had excellent grouper. Service was good. Nice ambiance. Prices were reasonable. Reservations Needed. (Location-Turn at the Adventure Golf- on the left) International
5 star Madame Jannette's-  Excellent food.  I had lamb chops- very good.  They also have argentinian steaks but I haven’t tried them yet.  Grouper was very good.  Get the American potatoes- they are cut and pan fried w/ onions and bacon- awesome.  Reservations needed.  Nice ambiance. International
5 star Flying Fishbones- we didn't make it this year, but if it was a good as last year, this makes the five star list. Seafood is excellent. One of the few places you get fresh wahoo in season. Dine while watching the sunset. Located in Savanetta. Seafood
4 star LaDome- Every thing is al a cart and small portion sizes (which I liked, but the guys were hungry not long after eating).  I ordered a filet which was very good.  All of our food was excellent.  Don’t be in a hurry- like the French, they space the meal out and it took us almost 2 hours for dinner.  Belgium onion soup is very good.  A bit pricey for the small portion sizes.  $225.00 for four of us (w/ our usual bottle of wine). Belgian-French
4 star Pago-Pago- Filet very good- but not my favorite.  It was very tender but the taste was lacking (and I order them rare if you are wondering). French onion was excellent.  We also tried the Kobe Beef- ok but overrated.  Tuna was very good. Dinner for four $315.00 Steak House
4 star Soprano's- not a restaurant. But you can order food from Casa Tua next door and eat there. Soprano's is a piano bar. They open at 5:00 and music starts at 8:00. (Casa Tua's french onion was very good.) Piano Bar
4 star Buccaneer- Looks like you are eating on the bottom of the ocean.  Food is very good.  Service is usually good, can be a bit slow (aruban time) Reservations preferred. Seafood
4 star LaGranja- There are two on the island. We have only tried the one in Savanetta. They have great broasted chicken.  Tons of food and inexpensive. Good place to go for a simple family meal. Good lunch spot. Chicken
4 star Bingo's- Great Food. French Onion is sweet and very good. Prices are reasonable. Don't be in a hurry. Reservations Recommended International
4 star Urataka Pizza- This is as local as it gets. . The pizza is very good. Lots of topping. Good crust. The chicken is also good here but we usually go with the pizza. (See below for directions) Pizza
3 star Aqua Grill- Average seafood. Not bad but there are definitely better seafood places to go. Excellent portabella appetizer. Kind of expensive. Very cold. Seafood
3 star Wacky Wahoo's- we couldn't even get wahoo. Seafood is average. Reservations Needed. Prices were reasonable. Seafood
3 star Cuba's Cooking- Enjoy specialties like lobster enchilada, grouper with Cilantro sauce, or skirt steak. Try the mojitos. Cuban
3 star Tomato Charlie's - Good pizza and other italian food. Located in high rise area. Pizza/Italian
3 star Pam Pam- French onion was good but no cheese. Food was okay. Good happy hour place on Friday’s 5-7 4 beers for $7.00. Late Friday’s they have a band International
3 star Iguana Joes- Food is good. Reasonable prices. This is a typical tourist place located in downtown Oranjestad on the main street. Mexican
3 star Paddock- Dutch place. They have international food, I think. It’s been a while since we have eaten there. We usually just stop in for a drink and watch the cruise ships. International
2 star Pizza Bob's- great brushetta. French Onion had lots of cheese but the broth tasted like dish water. Food was not bad and prices are ok. Pizza/Italian
2 star Tasca La Cascada- All the food is in BBQ type sauce.  Grouper in olive oil and garlic crusted was excellent. We weren't thrilled with the service. Service was VERY slow. Very inexpensive though. Portugese
2 star LaTrattoria El Faro Blanco (at the California Lighthouse)- while this is a good place to have a cocktail and watch the sunset, the food wasn’t that good.  We haven’t been there in two years but we didn’t care for the food when we were there.  Although, I do recall having a tomato and mozzarella salad that was very good. Italian (I believe)

Directions to Urataka Pizza- Located way out east of Santa Cruz. Take Highway 4A from low rise into St. Cruz. (you will go through 3 or 4 round abouts and then finally see a stop light). Turn left at the road before the stop light. Mundo Nobo grocery store will be on your left. Go until you see a very large Anchor on your left. Turn right. Go left at the Y. Urataka is a big yellow building. Take plates and silverware or plan to eat off napkins with your hands. (Note- if you mess up and go to the stop light, turn left at stop light- when you come to a T- go right. Drive until you see the ships anchor and turn right. Stay left at the Y.)
